You do not need to be there for the collection, only for the drop off. Most buyers pay the seller online through the platform first; if you would rather we pay cash on collection, arrange it with us in advance.
Why We Ask for the Listing Photo
It is the single thing that decides whether the price you are quoted is the price you pay. Furniture descriptions are unreliable through nobody's fault: a "small sofa", a "two seater" and a "compact settee" can be the same thing or three completely different things, and a "chest of drawers" might be waist height or shoulder height. A screenshot of the seller's photo takes you fifteen seconds and lets us give you a fixed price rather than an estimate with room in it. That room exists to protect the operator, not you.
What a Marketplace Collection Costs
Our minimum is £50, which covers the first five miles, then £2 per mile beyond that. Because Teesside is compact, most collections are single load, short distance jobs that land at or very near the minimum. A few real distances, calculated the same way our quote tool calculates them:

- Stockton to Yarm, about 6 miles, £55
- Middlesbrough to Redcar, about 10 miles, £65

Worth doing the arithmetic before you buy: a £30 sofa that needs a £50 collection is an £80 sofa. Sometimes that is still an excellent deal, and sometimes the one listed twenty minutes closer is the better buy. Knowing the collection cost up front is what lets you make that call, which is why we give you a price rather than a callback.
Questions to Ask the Seller Before You Buy
- What floor is it on, and is there a lift? A third floor walk up changes the job.
- What are the actual dimensions? If they will not measure it, that tells you something.
- Does it come apart? Beds and wardrobes often will not clear a staircase assembled.
- Can a van park outside? Permit zones and narrow terraces add carrying distance.
- Will you be in, and for how long? Agree a window rather than a single minute.
And measure your own doorway and stair turn before you commit. The most common way a Marketplace purchase goes wrong is not the collection, it is the item arriving at your house and not going in.

Combining Collections
If you are furnishing a flat and buying several things, try to time them together. Two collections in one area on one run is far better value than two bookings, and it is a very common arrangement when someone is kitting out a first place. Tell us what you are hoping to collect and we will tell you whether it works as one job.
Selling, Not Buying?
It works the other way too. If you have sold something bulky and the buyer cannot collect, offering delivery for a fixed cost closes sales that would otherwise stall, and it widens your pool of buyers to the whole of Teesside instead of people with a van. Plenty of our Marketplace work is booked by the seller rather than the buyer. Put "delivery available" on the listing and message us for the price.
Staying Safe
- Pay on collection or through the platform's own protected checkout, not by bank transfer to a stranger in advance
- Be wary of a listing priced far below everything comparable, especially if the seller wants to move the conversation off the platform
- If we are collecting for you, tell us what to check and we will flag anything obviously wrong before we load it
- Keep the message thread. It is your record if something is not as described
