Yarm is a market town of roughly 9,600 people sitting on a meander of the River Tees, about five miles south of Stockton and eleven miles east of Darlington. It has one of the widest High Streets in England, a conservation area dating back to 1969, and a great many listed buildings, which is what makes it lovely to live in and interesting to move in.
It is also a town that moves. Families upsize into the larger houses off West Street and around Levendale, professionals move in from across Teesside, and there is a steady flow of people moving between Yarm and neighbouring Eaglescliffe, Ingleby Barwick and Stockton. We do all of those runs regularly, and most of them are short enough to be quick and cheap.

The High Street, and Why a Van Beats a Lorry
Most of what makes a Yarm move different happens on or just off the High Street. The parking bays down the middle are cobbled, the frontages are listed, and a good number of the properties are flats above shops reached by one narrow staircase with a turn in it. Everything comes down by hand, and there is no lift anywhere.
Then there is the bridge. Yarm Bridge is Grade II* listed and it is the pinch point for the whole town, so timing matters more here than almost anywhere else we work. We would far rather start a High Street job early and have the space than arrive at midday and spend twenty minutes circling.
This is the practical reason a man and van suits Yarm. A van fits where a large removals lorry is awkward at best, it can wait in a spot a lorry cannot, and one careful person carrying a wardrobe down a Georgian staircase does less damage than a rushed crew on the clock.
Yarm Fair Week, and Other Things Worth Knowing
Yarm Fair runs in the third week of October and the High Street closes for it. If you are moving to or from a High Street address that week, tell us when you book and we will plan around the closures rather than turning up to a road full of rides.
Away from the centre it is a completely different job. The Levendale and Leven Park estates are modern housing with driveways and normal access, which makes for quick, straightforward moves. The villages are different again: Kirklevington is about a mile out, Low Worsall a little under two, and the lanes to Picton, Crathorne and Aislaby are narrow enough that a van is the sensible tool rather than anything bigger.
