About Our Stokesley Service

Stokesley is a market town in North Yorkshire, about nine miles south of Middlesbrough, sitting on the River Leven at the foot of the Cleveland Hills and roughly four miles from the North York Moors National Park. It is one of the most desirable places to live in the wider Teesside area, and it has a good deal in common with Yarm when it comes to actually moving there.

The heart of it is a wide cobbled High Street with College Square at one end and West Green at the other, lined with Georgian and Regency buildings and a genuinely thriving run of independent shops. Lovely to live on, and the part of town that needs the most thought on moving day.

Away from the centre it changes quickly. There is modern family housing around the edges of the town, and then the villages, where properties get larger and the lanes get narrower.

The High Street, the Cobbles and Market Day

The older property around the High Street, College Square and West Green is Georgian and Regency, which in practice means narrower doorways, steeper staircases and turns on the landing that modern furniture was never designed for. It is all doable, it just wants care and a bit of time rather than force.

The cobbles are the other consideration. They are hard on a loaded sack truck, so more gets carried by hand than you might expect, and we allow for that.

Then there is market day. Stokesley has a general market every Friday and a farmers' market one Saturday a month, both of which make the centre of town considerably busier. If your move is on a Friday and your address is central, tell us and we will start early or work around it.

Great Ayton and the Villages

We cover the TS9 villages as standard, including Great Ayton, Hutton Rudby, Carlton in Cleveland, Seamer and Ingleby Greenhow. The properties out there tend to be bigger and the approaches tend to be tighter, which is exactly the combination a van handles better than a lorry.

Being close to the Moors, some of these addresses are down single track lanes with passing places. Worth a mention when you book so we plan the approach rather than reversing half a mile.

Stokesley Questions

How much does a man and van cost in Stokesley?

Our minimum charge is £50, then £2 per mile beyond the first five. Stokesley is about nine miles from Middlesbrough, so there is a little more distance in a Stokesley job than a town centre one, but the load and the access still matter more. Most one and two bedroom moves come in between £70 and £200.

Which postcode is Stokesley?

Stokesley is TS9, which also covers Great Ayton and a number of the surrounding villages. We cover the whole district as standard.

Can you move furniture out of a Georgian property on the High Street?

Yes, and we take our time over it. Older doorways and staircases around the High Street and West Green need working with rather than forcing, and we would far rather spend an extra ten minutes on a wardrobe than damage the property or the piece.

Can you move me on Stokesley market day?

Yes, but tell us when you book. The general market runs every Friday and the farmers' market one Saturday a month, and both make the centre much busier. For a central address on one of those days we will start early rather than arrive into the middle of it.

Do you cover Great Ayton and the villages?

Yes, including Great Ayton, Hutton Rudby, Carlton in Cleveland, Seamer, Newby, Easby and Ingleby Greenhow. Some are down narrow lanes, so it is worth mentioning access when you send your details.
